Book #02. Lord of the Flies, William Golding, 1954

William Golding is an English novelist, playwright and poet. He won the Nobel Prize in Literature and got a Booker Prize in 1980. Also he was put by The Times on the third place in their list of "The 50 greatest British writers since 1945" after Philip Larkin and George Orwell. Lord of the Flies is the most notable writer's work.

The story describes a group of young boys stuck on the tropical island as a result of air-crash. The protagonists are fair-haired Ralph, overweight bespectacled boy nicknamed Piggy, and the lider of the boys-choir Jack Merridew.

The plot playing around the conflict between chose as a lider Ralph and driven by vanity, contesting this position Jack. The key points of Ralph's veiw on situation are colaborating for equip their life on the island and maintain the fire for being visible for alleged help. Opposite him Jack has no concrete plan. Driven by his rage he addicted to hunting and glory and desire to be the head of the group.

This is a story about controversial human nature. The main theme in the novel is the conflict between animal instincts and civilization. It gives us a plenty food for thought: why one loses his human face in the face of survival and the other courageously stay on it despite of all. Here clashed in an irreconcilable battle rationalizm and emotional reactions, caloboration and competition, inner sense of freedom and herd behavior.

The upshot of the novel was very emotional for me. I recommend you to acquaint with this book.

10 from 10.
